However, I wish you hadn't sent off for his service record. It's digitized online at Footnote.com. For the price of your file from NARA, you could have paid for 2/3 of a year's subscription to Footnote. It's a very large file, too, for a CMSR. A brother of one of my ancestor's fought with a NY infantry unit at Gettysburg. Otherwise, my Civil War ancestors (all union, no confederates) were involved in less known activities. One was stationed at Harper's Ferry and was part of a detachment keeping track of Mosby's Raiders. Then another did guard duty in Memphis. Another was a saddler and was thrown from his horse .... when he took the horses to be watered.:-) Finally one was part of the Enrolled Missouri Militia fighting all the problem areas of Missouri.
